Condition of clubhead(s), shaft(s) and grip(s). This greatly affects
the value. It's not as critical as it is with baseball cards, but
it's still important. Most of the time, an older collectible club is
worth more in its natural condition than it would be if it was
refinished and made to look like new. List things like nicks, general
appearance and colors, rust, loose grips, cracks in wooden heads or
shafts, replaced grips or shafts, whipping, paint or stamps, labels,
etc. Use a magnet to verify that shafts are made of wood.
Manufacturers made brown coated shafts in the late '20s and early
'30s when steel first came out because people were reluctant to play
with that "new-fangled" material!
